  1. make ginger beer
  2. put into 2l plastic pepsi bottles
  3. allow to mature
  4. drink one bottle noting the the pressure inside was rather high
  5. fail to check second bottle
  6. be dragged out of slumber by a loud bang and the house shaking
  7. spend 5 minutes checking to see what went bang
  8. remember about ginger beer
  9. spend 20 minutes mopping up ginger beer and shards of plastic
  10. go on the net to find out what the rupture pressure (150psi+)  is of a pepsi bottle
  11. post about it on LJ

hahaha... that sounds like ginger beer!

My parents used to make their own beer.

In a room at the far end of the house where we might not be awakened and scared by the explosions.

That is so cool you did that science experiment though.

So, were you more pissed off having to clean up, or not getting the ginger beer of the second bottle?

My Grandad did that, but put it in screw top glass bottles... the following morning the (warm, underfloor heated) cloakroom was coated from stem to stern in ginger beer, with broken glass far and wide!

Horrendously sticky stuff, isn't it. Did you know that if you have a several of glass jars of home made ginger beer, the act of one exploding seems to be able to set off all the rest? And did you know that if said jars are stored in the garage, along with the shiny new car... 'nuff said, methinks.
