"I know stuff about horses!"
I started riding almost 20 years ago, although through lack of time and also personal issues, I haven't ridden for a few years now. In the recession of the early '90s, I worked out that I was better off financially going back to college. So I duly applied to do an Equine Science course at a few institutions - Warwichshire College at Moreton Morrell, and what was the Welsh Agricultural College in Aberystwyth. I was accepted onto the HND at WAC as the BSc would not be starting as planned that year. I had great fun learning as much as I could and met some great folks. The HND required a years work experience which I did at Leigh Equestrian Centre in Dorset. After the HND I stayed on for a further year and left with a Postgraduate Diploma in Equine Science.
While I know a fair amount about horses, there is still a huge amount I don't know. But the most important thing it the peace I find when around them. Much like the peace I find when around people I love.
Motorbikes, preferably on both wheels
I know what he is getting at here. On a couple(?) of occasions I've forgotten the rule of "rubber side down" the worst being lobbing a CB500 down the road at 60ish. Police report was that it was likely to have been debris on a bend. BTW, bouncing off the armco hurts.
Motorbikes are a fun mode of transport. I do however prefer to bimble along gently for which a bike like the 600 bandit suits me. If I was to buy a new bike now I could be tempted by a Z750. I would never buy a true sports bike I have far too many achy joints to compress myself into the silly posture required.
Incredibly impressive sound systems
Ha! Ha, I say again. The main system looks good and sounds good. It also glows in the dark, and puts out a fair bit of heat. It is a valve amp and the output valves are 845s. These have a plate voltage of 1250vdc and bright heaters. It's a Ming-da MC845-AA, fed by my original Arcam Alpha CD player and feeding a pair of Mordaunt-Short MS25Ti speakers.
Upstairs is a Yaqin MC-10K actually it's halfway between the 10K and the 10L. This is usually fed either by the DVD player or MP3s via an Apple Airport Express. It also glows in the dark and uses EL34 output valves. It feeds a pair of small bookshelf Mission speakers and a subwoofer.
But yeah, I'm a valve head.
Snake! Snaaaaake!
May 2008 saw me set up a viv and acquire a Caramel Cornsnake. This is the first time is 20 years I've kept snakes. When I got her she was only a couple of months old and maybe about 8" long. At that time even a small pinkie would leave a bulge in her when she fed. Now at about 32" even two small mice don't leave much of a sign that she's fed.
Since I've had her she has shed monthly - usually around the weekend of The Dungeon Club. Is it a sympathy shed? o.O
The viv she is in is an "all" glass one with sliding doors, one which if I chose I could use for an amphibian. If I do get another critter, I could be tempted by a Boa. For the time being though one is enough.
Sore bottom OR, IF THAT'S NOT RIGHT Afternoons and coffee-spoons
Egads a choice, a veritable choice. BDSM or coffee... Not an easy choice to present a coffee loving pain slut.
In deference to those of a more genteel nature, coffee.
Dear gentle reader, it may or may not come as surprise that I do adore coffee. Whether it is a simple caffetiere or a properly made latte. The latter naturally rules out Starbuck's. Their idea of a latte which is a half cup of tepid milky coffee topped by a stiffish foam is just so wrong. IMO, and you are welcome to disagree, a latte should only have a thin layer of light foam on the top - after all a latte is basically just a milky coffee.
The purist in me does drink a fair amount of espresso. A good espresso should have a thick crema on top and not be bitter.
But coffee is only half of it. The pleasure is enhanced when coffee is taken with good friends. Sitting talking or snuggling whilst enjoying a good coffee is bliss. Such a combination can make afternoons just vanish in one of the most pleasurable ways.
