Ho hum.
Time to be grouchy and grumpy. My iPod appears to be an ex-iPod. I suspect the HDD in it is buggered after dropping my bag down the stairs in Waterstones yesterday. I can reset it, but I cannot get it into disk mode, all I get is the unhappy iPod icon which suggests to me that the HDD has failed.
I have 3 (well 4, I suppose) choices:

I have 3 (well 4, I suppose) choices:
- Buy a new one
- Buy an alternative, such as a Zen(?)
- Buy a 3rd party HDD
- Pay Apple £166 to 'repair' it.

I found a "how-to" on taking apart my Jukebox once. Didn't do it, it involves prising apart some bits that are glued. But it didn't look too tricky if ever the disk were to die. It's a bog standard 2.5" ATA so I could re-build it with just about any laptop disk.
(Ignore if you will that the rest of the instructions on how to take it apart went on to explain how to dismantle the disk itself and build a window in the side so you could watch it play your music (until the heads crashed)). Some peple do some really strange things to their kit.
