Took a set of bathroom scales back today.

The day I bought them, I took them out of the box at home, put the batteries in and lo! Nothing. Checked the instruction sheet, and lo! Nothing. Obviously don't work...

Wandered into B&Q:

"Can I help?" asked the chap on the returns counter.
"Yes, I want to return these"
"What's wrong with them?"
"They don't work."
"In what way?"
"Um, well, they just don't work at all."
"Did you read the instructions?"
*grrr* "Yes, and followed them."
"Oh, so they don't work then?"
"That's right."
"Have you the receipt?"
*hands over receipt and the card I'd used to pay*

I'm not sure whether he was a bit slow, or was just being patronising because I'm female...

Alice.

...maybe he's just dealt with too many customers.

Nearly as good as the bloke in Blyth cameras who told me that Nikon don't do a 18-135mm lens and the one I found on the internet (and is now attached to my camera) must be a mistake. He basically called me a fibber because, as a girl, I obviously no nothing about cameras. Stoopid people.

I get that in every camera shop I go to. I'm complimented by my tutors for being one of the few students in the department that has a high level of technical knowledge (doing a BA in Photography).

This is the first time I've experienced it to this extreme from someone selling me camera stuff. I'm doing a HND in photography and have a thing about internet browsing so normally know the product code and price from 6 different sources before I walk in. I quoted a reputable online retailer who sells at Focus. I couldn't believe the attitude of someone I was trying to give money to. Bah humbug.

I was thinking that. He's probably used to people saying "it doesn't work", shortly followed by "instructions? What instructions?"

Thing is, you're intelligent, and you've got a brain. Most people aren't and haven't.

I hope you took your custom (and your money) elsewhere. It could, of course, simply have been a particularly ignorant salesdroid.
